A Biological Safety Cabinet Class II, Type B2 is considered most suitable when traces of chemical toxins are often used as adjunct to typical microbiological work and as such, 100% of the air inside the work-area is discharged to the external environment after passing it through a series of exhaust HEPA filters. A dedicated duct equipped with an independent exhaust fan motor will always be used to discharge the air inside the Class II Type B2. Alpha Linear offers Class II, Type B2 with an automatic exhaust interlock system that inhibits operation of the internal downflow fan unless the exhaust flow fan is functioning normally, there by creating an impenetrable air barrier to fully protect the operator from any accidental exposure during procedures. When considerable quantities of radionuclides and volatile compounds are anticipated to be employed, a complete exhaust cabinet—also known as a TEC (Total Exhaust Cabinets)—is required.
